How does it work

Collins Booksellers offers selected franchisees a complete business package including training in all aspects of the business, ongoing merchandising and field support, group advertising and the added extra discounts gained when buying as a group.
1. Assistance with Setting up Business

  • Assist in all aspects of setting up your bookshop
  • Finding a site
  • Negotiating the lease
  • Fit-out design
  • Setting up accounts with key suppliers
  • Creating opening orders of stock
  • Setting up systems

2. Training & Ongoing Support

  • You will be provided with ongoing support and advice in the management and marketing of your business. This support will include regular visits from the highly experienced management team as well as constant contact from head office.
  • Whenever you require assistance in any area of your business the management team will be there for you.
  • Collins Booksellers Management closely monitors book retailing trends both nationally and internationally and provides its network with extensive information about retail, market and product mix developments and opportunities.

3. Marketing Campaigns and Marketing Support

  • Collins Booksellers provides national promotions and marketing support in the form of catalogues, digital marketing, monthly in store reading guides and a host of other marketing and advertising initiatives.
  • The Franchisee is responsible for driving local area marketing and spending a percentage of annual turnover on local area marketing and advertising. Collins Booksellers provides assistance to franchisees with devising local area marketing plans and securing marketing opportunities via publishers and authors and other external media partner relationships

4. Group Buying Power

  • Franchisees will gain access to the strength of the Collins Booksellers’ group buying power. The size and buying strength of the group enables us to negotiate exclusive product deals and secure favourable terms of trade to improve Franchisees’ profitability and point of difference.
  • More favourable terms in publishers
  • Better discounts, particularly on new release titles
  • The negotiated trading terms with suppliers of the Collins group enables strong gross margins. Major new releases and group purchases are often bought at up to 5 - 10% additional discount to standard buying terms.
  • Discounts on other systems and services (e.g. insurance, inventory software, etc)

5. Autonomy

  • While you have the support of the experienced and knowledgeable head office team, franchisees have a large degree of autonomy in selecting what book and non book products to stock and how to engage with their local community.
